APRIL R. MARTINDALE, MBA, ESQ., BIOGRAPHY

April R. Martindale is the Owner/Managing Partner of Martindale Law, a law practice located in Broward County, Florida where she focuses on Intellectual Property, Business Law, Non-profit Entity Formation, Contract, and Entertainment Law. April is licensed to practice law in the State of Florida and the U.S. District Court, Southern District of Florida.

Ms. Martindale earned her Bachelors’ degree from Florida Metropolitan University, where she graduated magna cum laude in Paralegal Studies. In recognition for her efforts, April was on the Dean’s List or President’s List every semester throughout college. April earned a MBA in Management from Strayer University, where she graduated summa cum laude, and was inducted into Golden Key International Honor Society, and Alpha Chi National College Honor Society in a period of 11 months. April subsequently earned her law degree from Nova Southeastern University Shepard Broad College of Law, where she was chosen by her peers and professors as the Valedictorian for the December 2015 graduating class. Throughout law school, April served as treasurer for the Evening Law Student Association and participated in educating 1L’s and 2L’s about the pitfalls to avoid in law school and the tools necessary to succeed.

April is a current member of the Florida Bar, Broward County Bar Association’s Professionalism Committee, Executive Council member of the Florida Bar Business Law Section’s Inclusion, Mentoring & Fellowship Committee (IMF), Business Law Fellow and co-chair of the Mentor/Mentee Subcommittee, Florida Bar Leadership Academy Fellow, Florida Bar Intellectual Property BLS Committee, Member of the Florida Bar Seventeenth Judicial Circuit Grievance Committee, Florida Bar Judicial Nominating Procedures Committee, Florida Bar IP Law Association of Florida (IPLAF), Florida Association of Women Lawyers, Paul C. Perkins Bar Association, Black Women Lawyers Association of Central Florida, and ASCAP-American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers and ForbesBLK.

In addition to practicing law, April is also a co-founder and managing member and Director of a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, New York Wins, Incorporated, headquartered in the city where she was born and raised. New York Wins, Inc. is designed to provide charitable and educational resources that train the mindset of the younger generation to engage with purpose, organize with passion, and contribute to the well-being of their communities, while learning the prerequisites of becoming socially responsible and progressive citizens. Ms. Martindale also is a co-founder and Director of Team Cheerfulness, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, headquartered in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.

In March 2018, Ms. Martindale appeared as a guest lecturer at Georgia State University’s Alpharetta Campus where she taught students about the intersection of law and mental health. She strives to educate the youth and society on the issues affecting the world and what steps we as individuals and businesses can take to promote positive and effective change.

In August 2018, April participated as a panel speaker alongside the Honorable Judge Robert Diaz at the Nova Southeastern University Shepard Broad College of Law introduction to legal Professionalism and Ethics Program (PEP) where she gave practical advice and words of wisdom to incoming law students about the concepts of professionalism and professional identity; focusing on the need for law students and lawyers to go beyond merely following the rules.

In October 2018, April was a featured guest motivational speaker at the Leaders Recognizing Leaders Conference in Fort Lauderdale where she challenged youth and young adults aged 15-25 years on how to be leaders and young diplomats to reshape their mindsets for community service, educational development, and global communication in local, national, and international communities.

In March 2019 Ms. Martindale returned to Georgia State University to lecture at the Perimeter campus where she taught students about the history of mental illness, its effects and the intersection of law and the criminal justice system.

April has lectured at her alma mater, NSU Law, five years in a row (April 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2023) about the challenges of overcoming adversity and obstacles to become an owner and managing partner of her own firm, Martindale Law. Ms. Martindale has since received positive feedback from students who advised that her story of courage and determination inspired them to not give up regardless of how many obstacles they may face.

In November 2020, Ms. Martindale was a guest speaker with Florida Commissioner of Agriculture and Consumer Services, Nikki Fried, Esq. at the “Fireside Chat: Women in the Legal Profession” through the Florida Bar Health Law Section where she discussed the disparities that exist in the legal profession and how these issues affect lawyers in the workplace and their professional lives and solutions to overcome these challenges.

In December 2020, Ms. Martindale was chosen as the President of the PNA After-hours group, by Mayor of Coral Springs, Scott J. Brook, Esq., the co-founder & President of Premier Networking Alliance, an organization dedicated to serve the communities we live and work in through philanthropy and to help build businesses in Broward County and South Florida with referrals and leads. Thereafter she began working in an of-counsel position with the Mayor of Coral Springs.

Thereafter, on February 12, 2021, Ms. Martindale was a panelist for the Florida Bar Business Law Section on “How to Sustain and Grow a Solo and Small Firm Practice with the Use of Technology; and in February 24, 2021, Ms. Martindale was challenged with spearheading and moderating a panel before the Florida Bar Business Law Section titled: “Racism in the Workplace” where she discussed the effects of systemic racism and the consequences of microaggressions as well as possible solutions to remedy the effects of same. On February 27th, three days later, Ms. Martindale lectured at the Rainmakers Academy hosted by GSCBWLA.

In April 2021, Ms. Martindale lectured before the JMI Non-Profit Executive class under the Jim Moran Institute for Global Entrepreneurship-FSU College of Business on the importance of protecting intellectual assets. She went from student to teacher in a manner of four months after graduating from the JMI-Small Business Executive Program in December 2020.

In 2021, April was highlighted as a subject matter expert for the Broward County Office of Economic and Small Business Development (OESBD) in the area of Intellectual Property Law where she lectured entrepreneurs in protecting their Intellectual Property Assets.

April was appointed as a Historian to the Executive Board of Gwen S. Cherry Black Women Lawyers Association for 2020-2021; and subsequently elected as President-Elect for 2021-2022. Ms. Martindale was selected as a fellow into the Florida Bar Business Section Fellowship

Program for the 2020-2022 class and Ms. Martindale was also selected for the Florida Bar Leadership Academy Class IX for 2021-2022. Ms. Martindale also served as the Executive Director of the VHFCNBA Fellowship from 2023-2024 which covers 10 counties in Central Florida offering nonprofit legal services to the underserved and underprivileged communities within the State of Florida.

May of 2022, Ms. Martindale lectured on the “Importance of Protecting Your Intellectual Assets” at the Florida State University College of Business/Jim Moran Institute for Global Entrepreneurship Small Business Program.

Ms. Martindale also lectured before legal professionals and practitioners for the Palm Beach County Bar Association in August 2022 on the topic of “Opening and Operating a Small/Solo Practice.”

In September 2022, Ms. Martindale served as a subject matter expert in Intellectual Property for the 2nd time for the Kauffman FastTrac New Venture Program under the Broward County Office of Economic and Small Business Development (OESBD).

April was also chosen as a subject matter expert on Legal Issues for Businesses Florida State University College of Business/Jim Moran Institute for Global Entrepreneurship Small Business Program in October 2022.

In February 2023, Ms. Martindale participated as a judge at the Broward County middle school Speech and Debate Competition at Marjory Stoneman Douglas (MSD) in Parkland, Florida giving students valuable feedback on how to best present themselves, own their voices and capture a respective audience.

April continually gives back and volunteers as a mentor to the youth, individuals, entrepreneurs and other business professionals. In March 2023, Ms. Martindale participated as a judge at the Greater Fort Lauderdale Chapter of Jack and Jill of America Inc.’s, Annual Judges Michael and Mary Robinson Community Oratorical Competition for the youth.

In April 2023, Ms. Martindale returned to lecture at a non-profit executive program on “Protecting Your Intellectual Assets” at the Florida State University College of Business/Jim Moran Institute for Global Entrepreneurship Small Business Program.

In September 2023, April returned to lecture again with the Broward County Office of Economic and Small Business Development (OESBD) where she is sought out as a Subject Matter Expert in Intellectual Property for the Kauffman FastTrac New Venture Program.

In February 2024, Ms. Martindale was honored to participate as a judge for the third time at The Greater Fort Lauderdale Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Inc., for the Annual Judges Michael and Mary Robinson’s Community Oratorical Competition.

In November 2024, April returned again to lecture again with the Broward County Office of Economic and Small Business Development (OESBD) where she served as a Subject Matter Expert in Intellectual Property for the 5th time for the Kauffman FastTrac New Venture Program for Entrepreneurs.

In March 2025, Ms. Martindale conducted a presentation on the Importance of Networking, Marketing, and Mentorship to the students at St. Thomas University Ben Crump College of Law where she received a standing ovation.

Most recently, in May 2025, April participated with the Florida Bar Speakers Bureau and presented a CLE workshop for the Northwest Florida Paralegal Association Monthly Meeting on Corporate Law.

April finds a way to actively balance single parenthood, educational commitments, professional obligations, and personal responsibilities and commitments. April lives in Central Florida and is a mother of three phenomenal young adults, and two rescue dogs, Rocky & Rambo.
